Andreas Kurtz, 1781-1846, was a manufacturer of basic chemicals. Arrived in England in 1815 and by c1816 was making soap in London having acquired through marriage the business of a Mr Sandemann. In 1820 moved to Manchester where he had a succession of business partners and specialised in making pigments and borax. On his death his business was successfully developed by his son, Andrew G Kurtz
