(Sir) William Shelford, 1834-1905, was a leading civil engineer who worked at home and abroad on a wide range of projects - railways, waterworks, mines, tramways, etc. Established in independent business from 1865 initially in partnership with Henry Robinson until 1875. From 1899 his son joined him as partner. Frequently worked as arbitrator. Retired 1904
