Traces origins to 1852 when Dr Thomas Cantrell started to manufacture at Belfast aerated water and other soft drinks. 1869 established a Dublin factory with Alderman Cochrane. By 1880s had capacity to produce 160,000 bottles per day. Developed into a major Irish soft drinks business base at Dublin and Belfast and exporting widely. Sometime owned by Guinness. 1998 acquired by Allied Domencq Plc and sold by them to BC Partners in 1999. 2003 floated on Irish Stock Exchange as C & C Group Plc
