Walter Hancock, 1799-1852, was a mechanical engineer and builder of road steam passenger carrying vehicles. Made developments to steam engine and in 1830s incorporated these into c10 steam road vehicles he designed and built at his Stratford works. 1833 supplied one to the London & Paddington Steam Carriage Co, established 1832 and closed mid 1830s. Subsequently built vehicles for his own regular service between Moorgate and Paddington. Another user was London & Brighton Steam Carriage Co. From 1840s worked with his brother Thomas Hancock (qv) in rubber manufacture
