Traced origins to T Land & Sons Ltd, a Sheffield firm of electroplate table silver and cutlery manufacturers established in 1845 by Henry Land. At one time employed 100. After 1945 Tom Land, who had worked in instrumentation manufacture 1939-45, diversified the business into instrumentation manufacture, notably pyrometrical products for use in steel industry. Sometime relocated to Dronfield. Silver plating was gradually discontinued and the business was carried forward as Land Pyrometers Ltd. From this two other related businesses were developed, Land Infrared and Land Combustion. 1983 the whole business was reorganised as Land Instruments International Ltd. Land Pyrometers sold 1989.
