Ralph Dodd, b1756-1822, was a consulting civil engineer who worked initially in Sunderland area constructing tunnel-ways for colliers. In later years based in South East England, working for Grand Surrey Canal, South London Waterworks Co, East London Waterworks Co, etc. Noted especially for the aborted Gravesend to Tilbury Tunnel, promoting a company to finance its construction and incorporating it in 1799. Project terminated 1802
