Notes:

Traced origins to the Great Western Potteries Brick Tile & Clay Works, established in the 1870s by Frank Candy. Made bricks and salt glazed wares. 1882 incorporated as Candy & Co Ltd and from 1887, when in difficulties, acquired by the Fox family, bankers at Wellington, Somerset, who was to own it for a century. By 1900 major producers of bricks, sanitary pipes, tiles, etc, and later fireplaces as well as some art pottery until 1950s. By 1930s had built 60 houses for workers. Also owned extensive clay quarries via Devon & Courtenay Clay Co Ltd and Whiteway Co Ltd. From 1960s focused on tiles. In 1991 in receivership and subsequently several owners including Decorative Products Group [2024]
