Traced origins to 1790s when block printing undertaken by Walter Weir until 1809 when operated by Aitken, McIndoe & Foyer. 1823 taken over by Sharp & Buchanan and in 1840 acquired by McGregor, Pollock & Brown which firm the Coubrough family subsequently joined; they went on to become sole owners. Emerged as a very large printing works by 1850s employing 500. Closed 1898
