John Kidwell, 1849-1922 emigrated from Scotland to USA in 1872 and in 1882 settled in Hawaii and established a nursery. Soon moved into pineapple growing and canning via Hawaiian Fruit & Packing Co Ltd in which he was principal shareholder and sometime manager. Output exported to USA. This proved unprofitable and he disposed of his interest and moved into sugar cane growing via Apokaa Sugar Co. 1898 finally retired from pineapple business
