Traced origins to 1859 when formed when William Wilcox and John Lassey, coal mine operators at Burmantofts, Leeds, started to exploit fireclay resources at the site of their mine. By 1863 known as Wilcocks & Co. Made ceramic pipes and construction materials such as decorative and glazed tiles, architectural terracotta, glazed faience, etc, for use in construction of exteriors and interiors of buildings. Between 1880-1904 also made art pottery. 1888 known as Burmantofts Co. 1889 merged with other Yorkshire manufacturers to form Leeds Fireclay Co Ltd. Closed 1957
