Traced origins to Albert J Caley who, in 1857, established a chemist's shop at Norwich and who, from 1860s, manufactured mineral waters. Started drinking and eating chocolate production in mid 1880s. From 1898 made Christmas crackers. Incorporated 1898. 1918 acquired by African & Eastern Trade Corp Ltd which in 1932 sold it on to John Mackintosh & Sons Ltd of Halifax although brand continued in use until 1960s. Mackintosh subsequently merged with Rowntrees which was later acquired by Nestle
