John George Bodmer, 1786-1864, was a mechanical engineer of Swiss descent who spent much time working in Continental Europe but who from time to time worked in UK. Paid first visit 1816, returned to UK in 1828 and spent much time in UK in 1830s and 40s. In 1830s designing rubber machinery for Charles MacIntosh & Co Ltd of Manchester, 1840s designing locomotives, etc. 1834 established experimental workshop at Bolton. Specialised in mechanical stokers
