William Turton, d1900, was a leading figure in the road passenger transport industry in the north of England, notably Leeds. Established in business at Leeds from 1840s as a hay and straw merchant, he developed the city's leading horse drawn bus and cab business. Subsequently founded the Leeds Tramway Co Ltd, which introduced trams to Leeds, and was involved in many similar companies elsewhere in the North of England. In addition involved in bus and tram building business of Thomas Green & Son and was a coal merchant
