George Willdey, c1676-1737, was an optical instrument maker, especially of lenses, in City of London, from very early 18th century. Initially in partnership with Timothy Brandreth. Following marriage into a Huguenot family diversified into selling luxury goods as a toyman in which he became a leader, exporting widely. Also published maps. Succeeded in business by his son, Thomas, 1717-48
