Traced origins to Edward Griffin who in 1821 set up as an importer of flax, hemp and tar and manufacturer of products such as sacks, tarpaulins, rope, twine, nets, etc. 1840s joined by John Morris. 1857 at Ceres Works diversified into manure manufacture from bones, etc, and by 1861 disposed of other business to W H Lee & Co. By 1870s making sulphuric acid. Closed 1920s
