Traced origins to Joseph Passmore, 1823-95, who set up in business in Southwark, later Finsbury, London, in 1844 as a general printer. Business expanded from 1850s through printing the very popular sermons of local Baptist minister, Charles Spurgeon, and James Alabaster recruited to manage publication. 1907 built printing works at Maidstone close to Albert Reed's paper mill. Incorporated 1911. By late 19th century specialised in high quality colour fashion printing, later brochures, marketing material, etc. 1981 reorganised as the Passmore Print Group Ltd following acquisition of Ambassador Press, St Albans. 1993 in receivership when assets acquired by Duncan Web Offset
