Samuel Bell, d1744, established Lower Street Pottery in 1724 which produced red glazed earthenware. On his death the pottery was acquired by William Steers who is thought to have produced first commercially viable soft paste porcelain in Staffordshire. Joseph Wilson took over pottery in late 1740s and continued until c1750s. Generally referred to as 'Pomona' Factory on account of the site in due course having been that of the Pomona Inn
