Notes:

Traced origins to Thomas MacBean Glen, 1804-73, who was at work in Edinburgh by 1827 as a musical instrument maker. His sons, John and Robert, succeeded to the business c1865 when it became J & R Glen. Continued in Glen family until 1954 when owned by Andrew Ross, formerly manager. He died 1978. Closed in early 1980s. Came to specialise in the making and retailing of bagpipes but early on made and/or retailed a much wider range of instruments including drums, brass, string, etc
