Traced origins to dairy product importers, most notably Henry Trengrove & Co, established by Henry Trengrove, b1842, in c1875. Initially Trengrove imported butter from Australia and Argentina and acted as London agents for the important US food business, Armour. By 1920s had diversified into other foods such as cheese, corned beef and, later still, eggs. 1925 merged with interests of Joseph Nathan & Co, owner of Glaxo brand, to become Trengrove & Nathan Ltd. 1920s started butter packing. 1944 packing interests merged with those of others importers - Dennys Butter, Petty and Combedale - to form Dairy Produce Packers Ltd. 1948 Glaxo withdrew from business and in 1949 Dairy Produce Packers Ltd was an independent business. Trengrove subsequently became a wholly owned subsidiary of DPP, acting as importers and agents for overseas producers. By late 1940s DPP had factories throughout UK. 1959 DPP acquired by Hovis McDougall Ltd
