John Bruton, 1812-99, was for long a travelling consulting engineer. Travelled in UK and India in particular where involved in railway surveying. Early on worked for Robert and George Stephenson and later for Isambard Kingdom Brunel. From 1870s resident in London as a consulting civil engineer with his son at Great George Street, Westminster. First project was to advise re quarrying in North Wales. Later an important client was Coal Consumers' Association whom he advised on acquisition of coal mines. Also engineer to tramways companies. Reckoned a small business undertaking fairly routine projects
