Dated from 1676 when built by John Hammond. By 1750 had a subsidiary branch at Sedlescombe when in ownership of the Gilmore family. Subsequently both works passed through marriage to Lester Harvey. 1817 his business became known as Curtis's & Harvey and relocated to Hounslow. Battle Works later acquired by Charles Laurence who had other works at Crowhurst and Pepper in Eye. His business subsequently merged into Pigou & Wilkes and moved to Dartford when Battle Works finally closed [2023]
