Traced origins to Alexander Hadden, d1793, who set up in business in c1747 as a hosiery merchant and manufacturer. Soon after traded as Hadden & Farquhar when established a large mill at the Green, Aberdeen. Succeeded by his sons when known as A Hadden & Sons. Developed into a very large business employing c1,300 by c1815. Developed as a carpet manufacturer. Failed 1840s
