Notes:

Established by Asplan Beldam, b1841, a marine engineer, in 1876 at Stratford. He had formerly developed pioneering high pressure steam engines. Now developed and manufactured 'packings' and 'jointings', a fabric made from asbestos and later rubber, for improving the efficiency of steam engines by reducing energy loss. Later in 1870s relocated the business to Brentford. Incorporated 1914. Continuing in 1980s as a world leader in sealing technology. In c1908 Beldam family, as a separate venture, started making rubber tyres for motor vehicles via G W Beldam Tyre Syndicate, later Bedlam Tyre Co (1920) Ltd
