Thomas Russell, b1865, was employed from 1882 by John Morgan, importers of American pharmaceuticals, as their advertising manager before becoming advertising manager of 'The Times', 1905-08, where he was associated with the launch of The Times Book Club. By then he was a leader in his field, well exposed to advanced US advertising techniques. 1910 established himself as an independent advertising consultant, perhaps the first of his kind in the country. Advised his customer businesses on advertising programmes. 1910 founded Incorporated Society of Advertisement Consultants. Retired 1931 when a clear leader of his profession
