Notes:

Established in Manchester in 1869 by Arthur Brooke as Brooke Bond & Co, tea and coffee retailers. Soon opened other shops and in 1872 also set up in London. Incorporated 1892 and soon focused on blending, packing and wholesaling. From 1901 established a large blending and packing operation in India, selling to the local market. From 1918 developed large tea estates in India and Sri Lanka followed by blending and selling organisations in other countries. Developed UK business through intensive brand advertising, especially of PG Tips brand. 1968 merged with Liebig's Extract of Meat Co Ltd to form Brooke Bond Liebig Ltd. 1984 acquired by Unilever Plc
