Traced origins to two businesses developed by Fred Wallis. First was Glynn Bros of Birmingham, established c1890 to deal in cycle tubing, gas fittings and plumbing materials, which was soon acquired by Fred Wallis. It was incorporated in 1928. In 1928 he also established Wednesbury Tube Co Ltd to make and distribute lead and steel tube. Shortly afterwards Glynn opened a plant at Trafford Park, Manchester, to make lead sheeting and pipes followed by a similar plant at Park Royal in 1926. 1931 Wednesbury Tube relocated to Bilston and subsequently gave up steel tube making but in 1939 started to make copper tubes instead. 1939 Glynwed Holdings Ltd formed to acquire both businesses. Converted to public company in 1941 as Glynwed Tubes Ltd. From 1953 expanded by acquisition, acquiring Midlands metal businesses making bright steel bars, nuts and bolts, high tensil studs, steel tube fittings; steel flooring, handrails, etc, etc. Acquisitions included, in 1969, Allied Ironfounders Ltd, inter alia manufacturers of AGA cookers. 1983 renamed Glynwed International Plc. 1997 acquired by Mueller Industries Inc of USA when reconstructed and subsequently renamed AGA Foodservice, later Aga Rangemaster [2023]
