Established in 1914 by Mr J McL Whitfield to acquired certain rights from the General Acoustic Co of USA for use in Britain and parts of the British Empire. Incorporated 1917. Converted to public company 1936. Until 1929 used equipment manufactured in United States but thereafter sourced acquisitions in UK and started to manufacture at Dictograph Works, Croydon, and in 1940 acquired Grampian Reproducers Ltd of Feltham. Gradually increased range of products so that by 1950s supplied and installed telephone systems, music broadcasting units, time recorders, etc
