Traced origins to a cotton spinning business established by John Broadbent and his sons in the mid 19th century at Salford. Soon after established premises at Droylsden. About 1904 started to manufacture canvas and this, along with heavy cotton fabrics, became the business's major focus. 1910 incorporated. After 1945 focused increasingly on conveyor canvas for coal mines. 1947 converted to a public company. 1957 acquired by Cranleigh Development Corp Ltd
