Traced origins to 1899 when established as William Bottomley & Sons Ltd at Bank & Union Doubling Mills, Mossley. Engaged in doubling of cotton yarns to make poplins and volis. Also made belt duck. 1929 started to make cord tyre fabrics for motor industry which, with belting production, became their major activity. 1931 reorganised as E & E Bottomley Ltd. 1947 converted to a public company
