Traced origins to William Challen who in c1835 set up in business as a piano maker at Fitzroy Square. He had formerly been in partnership with Alexander Watlen and soon after formation his business was known as William Challen & Sons. 1859 relocated showrooms to Berners Street, off Oxford Street. 1862 Charles Challen took over business from his father. Works initially near Euston Station but later relocated to Camden Town. c1960 acquired by Brasted Brothers Ltd
