Traced origins to John Gray, 1811-54, who established his biscuit making business in mid 19th century. 1853 joined by Peter Dunn, d1865., who was connected with the leading Glasgow grain millers and merchants, Campbell & Dunn. Subsequently developed by his brother William Gray, 1812-80, into a leading Glasgow business which added bread baking in early 1860s. Alongside this developed a retailing business, at one stage having 22 branches in Glasgow. From early 1890s the firm was progressively subsumed into the leading Glasgow bakers, Bilsland Brothers.
