Traced origins to 1923 when established by James, d1962, and Emily, d1963, Berresford at Wetley Rocks, near Leek. Early on traded as J M Berresford. 1936 relocated to Cheddleton. By 1954 operating 18 vehicles. Post war made numerous acquisitions including Byrne Brothers of Leek in 1960 and W Stonier & Sons of Goldenhill in 1978. 1982 diversified into road haulage and built a substantial business. By 1982 had 55 passenger vehicles. Sold in 1987 to PMT
