Leonard Gurle, c1621-85, was a nurseryman originally at Southwark but who moved to Whitechapel in 1640s. Emerged as a leading nursery selling fruit trees in particular but also seeds, shrubs, plants, etc, in London and in the country. 1677 appointed King's Gardener. Possibly succeeded in business by his son or grandson
