Traced origins to 1879 when Charles Gaselee started a lighterage towing business in London. Soon also towed barges and ocean going ships. Early on known as Gaselee & Gush and by early 20th century known as Gaselee & Son. By 1900 had 11 tugs and 2 hopper barges. 1954 made first of many acquisitions, F G Towage & Co Ltd. 1957 interest acquired by Hays Wharf Group. 1966 merged with J P Knight & Co (London) Ltd to become Gaselee & Knight Ltd. 1975 acquired by Alexandra Towing Co Ltd
