Notes:

A major builder of aircraft and aero engines. Established 1910 by Sir George White, a leading Bristol stockbroker whose firm was Sir George White & Co, as British & Colonial Aeroplane Co Ltd and reorganised in 1920 as Bristol Aeroplane Co Ltd of which Bristol Engine Co Ltd was a subsidiary. Early on also provided flying training. 1935 public company. Made cars after 1945. 1956 reorganised into Bristol Aircraft and Bristol Aero Engines. The former merged in 1959 with English Electric, Hunting Aircraft and Vickers Armstrong to form British Aircraft Corp Ltd. The latter merged with Armstrong Siddeley Ltd to form Bristol Siddleley Ltd
