Traced origins to 1908 when Davey Hill & Co, established 1755, combined with Hodgkinsons, Clarke & Wood, established 1762, to form Davey, Hill & Hodgkinsons Ltd. 1908 British Drug Houses Ltd was registered to acquire D H & H Ltd, Barron, Harveys & Co, established 1750, and Hearon, Squire & Francis, established 1714. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and wholesalers. Subsequently acquired George Curling, Wyman & Co which had substantial interests in India and South Africa. Public company 1926. Late 1940s established an important greenfield manufacturing site at Poole. From 1950s grew wholesaling interests, much by acquisition. 1967 acquired by Glaxo
