Built 1864-69 by Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts as a philanthropic measure to assist poor of East London in purchase of cheap and fresh food. Comprised a covered market. Unsuccessful and in 1870 relaunched as a wholesale/retail fish market. Again unsuccessful and in 1871 transferred to Corporation of London. Again unsuccessful and transferred back to Burdett-Coutts in 1874. Closed 1885. Demolished post 1945
