Traced origins to 1919 when established as a public company to effect the merger of Tubes Ltd, New Credenda Tube, Simplex Conduits and Accles & Pollock Ltd, leading metal tube manufacturers. Subsequently acquired other tube makers including in 1928 acquired Reynolds Tube. Also came to hold important aluminium production interests via a major stake in British Aluminium Co Ltd and steel interests via acquisition of Round Oaks Steel Works Ltd and others. Subsequently acquired a range of specialist engineering businesses to confirm TI as leading UK engineering business. These included Raleigh Industries Ltd, cycle manufacturers, Alfred Herbert Ltd, machine tool makers, and Dowty Group, aerospace and motor components manufacturer. 2000 merged with Smiths Group (formerly Smiths Industries Ltd) when known as TI Group Plc
