Thomas Archer, c1668-1743, was an architect, landowner and courtier. Started in architecture very shortly after 1700 and was involved in design of country houses for aristocracy and of churches, especially in London. 'Master of English Baroque'. By 1710s largely withdrawn from architecture to manage his estates. His wealth derived from land meant he was not financially dependent on architecture
