Notes:

Owned two Bristol merchant houses that traded in West India sugar and African slaves from early 18th century. The two families were linked by the 1746 marriage of Henry Bright, 1715-77, and Sarah Meyler, 1720-69, although this was predated by business connections when Bright was apprenticed to the Meylers. The two families traded under several styles, the most enduring being Meyler & Maxse, 1770-87; Lowbridge & Richard Bright, 1774-1815; and Gibbs Bright & Co, 1818-39. Gibbs Bright & Co was a connection of Antony Gibbs & Sons
