Traced origins to 1936 when established by Air Ministry at Bawdsey, Felixstowe, Suffolk, as Bawdsey Research Station to develop radar based air defence systems for the UK. 1939 relocated to Dundee, then to Swanage, Dorset, and in 1942 to Malvern where it remained. 1942 renamed Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE). 1953 merged with Radar Research & Development Establishment (RRDE) to form Radar Research Establishment, later Royal Radar Establishment. 1976 merged into Royal Signals & Radar Establishment
