(Sir) Hugh Myddelton, 155- -1631, early on was a goldsmith who developed a leading business supplying pieces to prestige customers including royalty. From this he developed a banking business. Best known for his work in promoting and managing the very successful New River Co which from the early 17th century supplied piped water to London. Also had important mining interests in North Wales - from where he originated - including silver, gold, copper and lead, especially at Cwmsymlog with the Company of Mine Adventurers of England. His brother was Sir Thomas Myddelton, 155- -1631, leading London merchant
