Notes:

Traced origins to early 19th century when established by the Taylor family at Runcorn as canal carriers, carrying lime and coal. Samuel Taylor, b1840, succeeded to the business on his father's death and greatly expanded it, initially acquiring narrow boats and, from 1897, limestone quarries in Derbyshire where he started lime production. Did not merge into the local cartel, Buxton Lime Firms Co Ltd, in 1891 but remained independent and was still operating in 1950s
