Notes:

Traced origins to Bishop's Waltham Clay Co, established in 1862 having been promoted by the local landowner, Sir Arthur Helps, to make bricks ('black' bricks) and tiles and later 'fine art' pottery. Liquidated in 1867. Late 1860s leased by Mark H Blanchard, d1892, who also owned brickworks in London, and emerged as the lost important brickworks in Hampshire covering 20 acres. Succeeded by his son, also Mark Henry, d1940. Incorporated during 1914-18. 1918 acquired by Elliot Brothers who heavily invested in new plant. Closed 1956 when still known as Blanchard's Brick & Tile Works
