Traced origins to Alexander McDougall, b1809, who in 1845 established a chemical business at Chadderton, near Manchester, which made a range of chemical consumer products. 1850s started to manufacture sheep dip. By 1867 had introduced profit sharing. Developed after 1900 by Isaac McDougall junior. Incorporated as McDougall Brothers Ltd in 1913. By then making dips, domestic and agricultural soaps and disinfectants and plant insecticides and hop washes. 1920 acquired Yalding Manufacture Co of Kent and established a factory there to serve hop growers. 1923 amalgamated with Alex Robertson & Sons Ltd of Oban to form McDougall & Robertson Ltd. From 1923 associated with Nobel Industries Ltd and Kynoch Ltd in a South African business. 1920s merged with William Cooper & Nephews Ltd to form Cooper McDougall & Robertson Ltd
