Notes:

Traced origins to a military airbase established at Hurn in 1941. Started chartered flights from 1950s. 1969 renamed Bournemouth Airport, later Bournemouth International Airport, following acquisition by Bournemouth and Dorset Councils in 1969. Thereafter developed rapidly as a commercial airport providing chartered and, in due course, scheduled flights. Acquired in 1995 by National Express Group and in 2001 by Manchester Airports Group. Between 1951 and 1980s was the site of major aircraft production works of Vickers Armstrong, later British Aircraft Corp Ltd, building airliners such as BAC One Eleven
