Established 1749 by John Potter and William Moore, physic gardeners, at Mitcham, Surrey. Cultivated lavender, herbs, etc, and started distillation to make lavender water, etc. 1888 acquired by Messrs W J Burn who in 1928 placed the Potter & Moore business into a limited company. 1929-37 operated from Dalston and in 1937 opened a major factory at Leytonstone. Sometime purchased by W J Bush & Sons Ltd who subsequently merged with others to form Bush Boake Allen. Continues in 2014 in ownership of Creightons Plc at Peterborough
