George Bennie, 1891-1957, was a Scottish engineer who developed at Milngavie a prototype monorail system which he marketed unsuccessfully to rail transport companies. Developed from early 1920s and finally given up in mid 1950s. Various businesses established in association with the project included George Bennie Railplane Trust Ltd, 1927-33, George Bennie Airspeed Ltd, established by Bennie in 1946 and dissolved in 1956, and Inter Counties Ltd, established in 1934 and which acquired assets from Bennie in later 1930s
