Traced origins to Henry Batchelor who was an engineer, naval draftsman and surveyor at Cardiff by 1874. Joined by his son, Telford Clarence Batchelor in c1878 when business known as H & T C Batchelor. 1877 firm moved to West Kensington when producing in particular 'motion diagrams'. Early 1880s started interest in design of wire ropes and with Arthur Latch and Sir George Elliott in 1888 started manufacture, initially using facilities at a ropemaking plant of George Elliott & Co. Became associated with the established ropemakers, James Horsfall of Birmingham. Incorporated 1892 as Latch & Batchelor Ltd. Continues as a specialist wire rope manufacturer based at Birmingham
