Notes:

Traced origins to Joseph Bramah, 1749-1814, inventor and manufacturer of his inventions. The latter included water closets in 1770s, lock making in 1780s, hydraulic presses in 1790s as well as the machine tools, also invented by his employee, Henry Maudslay, as needed to facilitate his production. 1813 known as Bramah & Son and later Bramah & Sons (1821) and Bramah & Robinson (1837). 1841 reorganised when engineering business hived off into Bramah Prestige & Ball and locks into Bramah & Co. From 1871 known as Needs & Co and renamed Bramah & Co 1904. Incorporated as Bramah Manufacturing Co Ltd in 1934, shortly afterwards being renamed Bramah's Ltd. Post 1945 specialised in low volume high security locks. Renamed Bramah Security Equipment Ltd in 1966. Continues
